FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Being one of seven students selected to participate in the CSU Mentoring Group for journalism, Taylor Luker had the opportunity to meet Channel Seven’s Anne Trujillo, an anchor that inspires Luker’s personal and professional goals.
In her early 20s, Luker hopes to be a travel reporter. Later, when she pursues becoming an anchor at a local news station, Luker wants to become a well-known anchor that can add her own personality and flare to the job.
At a young age, Luker was exposed to journalism when she would play anchor with her older sister and younger cousin. She also engaged in evening discussions about politics and foreign affairs with her parents, thus forcing her to keep up to date on the news.
“I like to look at both sides, but was forced to make an opinion,” Luker said of her family discussions.
In high school, Luker furthered her exposure to journalism by becoming a reporter and front page editor for the Cheyenne Mountain High School's newspaper.
“I work better under pressure and when I have to work quickly,” said Luker. “News comes at a split second and you have to react.”
It was not until Luker met Trujillo, a mom and a professional, that she realized what working in a news station was about and how she could pursue her dream job while raising a family.
No matter where Luker ends up, however, she wants to challenge herself, as she believes that one has to “keep pushing yourself as much as you can, otherwise you don’t know your potential.”
Haha, I sound like a monk with my quotes! But I liked the profile and the quotations were dead on. I liked that you grasped my aspirations, but the second paragraph sounds kind of awkward if you would want to reword that a little. Also, the group I was involved in was called Journalism Mentoring Group if you wanted to add that as a fact. The second to last paragraph about Trujillo might also work better up with the first paragraph where you discuss her as well. I think you did great and I'm happy with the results. Thanks!
